The Columbia neighborhood including the Eldridge Historic District is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Bellingham. The homes along the bluff in the Eldridge District have spectacular views of Bellingham Bay. Many of these homes have plaques on their front doors with the names of the original owners along with the year they were constructed. Even though this is an older neighborhood the homes here have been well maintained with beautifully manicured lawns.
In general the Columbia neighborhood has smaller homes, some of which have been remodeled and updated. The northeast section boasts larger lots which resemble those of the Birchwood Neighborhood. There are several small parks located throughout the neighborhood and you are likely to find one within walking distance from anywhere in the neighborhood. This area of town is very flat making walking a very feasible option.
Columbia neighborhood has an estimated 1,803 residents
The average annual income for the Columbia neighborhood is $55,735
The percentage of residents in the Birchwood Neighborhood with a mortgage is 73.3%
Typically K-5 students will attend Columbia Elementary, Middle Schoolers will attend Shuksan and then go onto Bellingham High School.
