Barkley Neighborhood

The suburban Bellingham neighborhood of Barkley is one of the fastest growing areas offering commercial, industrial and residential space. Multi-family housing, single family housing and apartments have sprung up in large numbers over the recent years. Covering the western side of Barkley hill, newer single family homes offer unobstructed views of the Canadian Cascades, Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands.

Sunset Square and Barley Village are two large shopping centers located in the Barkley Neighborhood. Both offer grocery stores, restaurants and other various retail options. Most of the industrial growth can be seen along Hannegan Road. Sunset Pond, located behind Sunset Square offers hiking trails as well as an off leash dog park.

Typically young students, K-5 are split between three elementary schools, Sunnyland, Northern Heights or Roosevelt. The majority of middle school students attend Shuksan but a small portion fall with the Whatcom Middle School boundaries. All high school students attend Squalicum.
